What we do

Practice directions

I

Legal analysis

We examine your situation, the documents and the applicable rules, then set out the realistic options. You receive a written opinion with risks and a recommended course of action.

II

Document drafting

Contracts, terms, policies, powers of attorney and corporate resolutions prepared to fit your actual business. Every clause is explained in plain language before you sign.

III

Transaction support

We accompany purchases, leases, share transfers and supplier agreements from first draft to completion. Due diligence, negotiation notes and closing checklists are included.

IV

Consultations

A focused session on one question, in the office or by video call. You leave with a written summary of the answer and the next practical steps.

Ashworth Counsel office in Essen
About the firm

Twenty-two years on Kettwiger Straße

Ashworth Counsel opened in Essen in 2004 as a small practice serving local manufacturers and family businesses. The firm has grown with its clients, but the working method has not changed: one lawyer stays responsible for your matter from the first meeting to the last signature.

We work in German and English, keep files structured and answer within one business day. Where a matter needs a notary, a tax adviser or a specialist elsewhere, we coordinate them rather than hand you a list of names.

  • A named lawyer responsible for your file, not a rotating queue
  • Fee estimates agreed in writing before any work begins
  • Documents delivered ready to use, with a short explanatory note
Method

How we work

01

First conversation

You describe the situation and we say plainly whether legal work is needed and what it will involve.

02

Review of documents

We read the file, identify the legal issues and confirm the scope, timeline and fee in writing.

03

Drafting and negotiation

We prepare the documents or the position and take the correspondence with the other side.

04

Completion

You receive the final papers, a summary of what was agreed and guidance on the deadlines that follow.

Expertise

Where our experience is deepest

Two decades in the Ruhr region have concentrated our work in a handful of areas where we know the local courts, registries and counterparties well.

  • Commercial contracts: supply, distribution, services and framework agreements
  • Company law: formation, shareholder agreements, transfers and restructuring
  • Commercial and residential lease agreements, including disputes with landlords
  • Employment matters: contracts, terminations, settlements and works council issues
  • Data protection under the GDPR and the BDSG, including processing agreements
  • Debt recovery, payment orders and enforcement before the courts of Essen

Testimonials and answers

"Our supply contracts were rewritten in three weeks and the terms finally match how we actually trade. Nothing had to be renegotiated afterwards."

Henrike VollmerManaging director, Essen

"I came with a termination letter and no idea of my rights. The settlement reached was better than I had hoped for and everything was explained clearly."

Tobias LehnhardtEngineer, Bochum

"They handled the purchase of our second workshop from start to finish. Every question was answered the same day, which mattered under a tight deadline."

Marija PetrovicOwner, Gelsenkirchen

An initial consultation is charged at a fixed rate agreed when you book, so there are no surprises. If the matter continues, that amount is credited against the fee for the further work.

Yes, we work in both German and English and can deliver documents in either language. Bilingual contracts are prepared with a clear clause on which version prevails.

Enquiries sent through this site or by e-mail are answered within one business day. Urgent deadlines can be flagged by telephone and we will respond the same day where possible.

Meetings can be held by video call or at your premises anywhere in the Ruhr region. For signings we can also arrange an appointment with a notary nearby.
